Arambol Beach Hostels Goa

Arambol Hostel Guide – An Insight into Backpackers’ Haven

Arambol is a traditional fisherman village, located approximately a one-hour drive from the Dabolim Airport within the Pernem administrative region of northern Goa, India. Arambol is North Goa’s most developed beach resorts and is still considered the beach of choice for many long-term, budget-minded travellers.

Arambol first emerged in the 1960s as a mellow paradise for long-haired, long term holiday makers escaping the scene at Calangute. The main beach is gently curved and safe for swimming but often crowded – head south towards Mandrem for a quieter beach scene. A short walk around the northern headland brings to you the little Kalacha Beach, another popular place thanks to the ‘Sweetwater Lake’ back from the beach. The headland above here is the best place in Goa for paragliding. Popular activities in Arambol beach includes the usual beach sports, water sports along with some wind surfing, para-sailing, etc for the adrenaline rush.

With more and more budget minded travellers flocking to Goa, the need for hostels have multiplied in the last few years. Hostels have always been popular with travellers in Goa where like-minded people can congregate to enjoy and have fun.

NO NAME Free Hostel

Free hostel Goa

Source: Booking.com

Beautifully set amidst the green near Querim Beach, an amazingly quirky place is what can define NO NAME Free Hostel. This place makes people realize that it is still possible to stay in a place where money is not involved; rather completing a few errands or chores is highly appreciated.

With no creature comforts like air-conditioning or spring mattresses and other luxuries, NO NAME Free Hostel is essentially for backpackers and rugged travelers. Although the approach is very basic, the aura of the place is so positive and energetic that it feels like a home away from home. Though the beds in the dorms are free of charge, the only way for the hosts to earn money to develop the place is through the restaurant on site.

People usually spend their days by lending a helping hand to develop the areas within the property which has given way to some awesome art in various forms. You actually need to see it to believe it! Pictures just doesn’t do justice to them.

The restaurant without a fixed menu serves up some delectable cuisines that are quite often prepared by the guests living in the dorms as a gesture of good will. Wi-Fi is free and is accessible throughout the property.

All these hostels sound pretty neat! I have never stayed in a shared hostel, so I would probably go with Arambol Hostel as you can have privacy with a balcony. I love rooms with balconies 🙂

The No Name Free Hostel sounds great. I wouldn’t have thought there would be anywhere FREE to stay in the world 😉 even for the more rugged traveller. I do love the idea though of ‘music blaring from different genres of music from pop to raggae to rock and Goan country songs’ so Roadhouse Hostels Arambol might be my pick.

I love how colorful these hostels are! And I love staying at hostels – they’re cheap and can provide everything you need to survive. I’m a big fan of staying in hostels because I can budget my trip to as tight as I want it to be. But I haven’t stayed in a free hostel before! I’d love to go check out No Name when I go to Arambol.

I love staying in private rooms in hostels. You get the social atmosphere (and sometimes the use of a kitchen) while getting to maintain your private space! I can’t believe how many cute hostels there are to choose from in Arambol! Great roundup.

The Wanderers’ Hostel looks fantastic! How much is it?
Before I book, I would love to know, though, whether life (and sleeping!) in summer in Goa is possible at all without A/C? I’ve tried a few times since I arrived in SEA and I just cannot sleep in the heat…

Hey Carola, ideally Goa like any other beach city gets extremely hot during summer months (May-Sep). Although most hotels (not hostels) do have optional air-con, Wanderers in Morjim have tented accommodation without A/C. However, they do have the tents right next to the pool ;). And to answer your question about cost – its around $15-18/night depending on availability.
Please do not hesitate to contact for further info. Cheers

I like the collegiality of a hostel but much prefer a private room. It’s nice to see that Arambol has several hostels with that option.

What a great list of hostels. I have not yet stayed in a hostel on any of my travels, but these are attractive and would certainly meet our needs, especially the one with private bathrooms! And a free hostel? That is an amazing thing for backpackers!

Hostels, hostels and more hostels. No wonder Goa has turned into a paradise for backpackers and budget travellers. What an interesting concept of ‘no-pay’ for accommodation. For people who travel full-time, this could so perfect.

It’s been a long time since I last stayed in a hostel but they certainly seem to have improved hugely over the years – that last picture you wouldn’t think was a hostel at all!
