Chariot Beach Resort

Chariot Beach Resort – Pure, Unadulterated Luxury!

As we were invited to participate in one of the biggest Bloggers meet of 2017, the excitement of meeting fellow bloggers and travellers was already high. As soon as the venue was declared as Chariot Beach Resort, Mahabalipuram, I was over the moon because I wanted to visit the place and soak in its rich history alongside the mighty Bay of Bengal. Although Jo (the other half of Stayopedia) had been to the city and spoke very highly of it, I just could not manage a visit until now.

Let’s just say, the event was a grand success and we did make some new friends and like-minded people.

Location

A beach resort in every sense of the word, CBR (Chariot Beach Resort) is located in Mahabalipuram, some 50 kms away from the city of Chennai. The scenic coastal drive from Chennai takes about an hour depending on the traffic situation, of course. CBR is situated within a stone’s throw from the Sea Shell Museum as well as the Five Rathas Monument.

First Look

As soon as we entered this luxury property, the myriad of greenery took over and finally we reached the lobby where a traditional welcome awaited us. Various traditional musical instruments playing along with a fresh sea breeze can enliven the tired senses. It is often said that ‘first impression’ is extremely important and Chariot Beach Resort delivers on it perfectly.

With the Bay of Bengal as its own personal backdrop alongside vast, expansive green areas with the swaying palm trees has a pretty nice ring to it.

Spanning over 42 acres of prime beach front location with almost 60% of it being open spaces, it is hard not to be in awe of this wonderful resort. A tour of the resort opened our eyes to the vastness of Chariot Beach Resort. With its own private beach, Ayurvedic Spa, Adventure & Sports area, etc. it is hard to fathom that the resort has less than 80 rooms in total.

Accommodations

Once the meet & greet and check in formalities were completed, we were ushered to our rooms in style. A buggy ride up to our cottage was again impressive as the pathway is sheltered by tall palm trees and greenery. The resort essentially has 4 categories of rooms – Standard, Deluxe, Suites & Cottages with varied sizes and amenities.

The cottage that we were bestowed upon was #327 and boy is it wonderful. Our cottage was spacious, well ventilated and plush with warm decor and not one but two huge beds. The open shower adjacent to the bathroom added to the charm of the place.

Amenities in the cottage include Wi-Fi, a widescreen TV with satellite channels, mini-bar, a closet, an iron, ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities. There’s also round the clock room service to sub-serve those late night hunger pangs.

Dining Options

Let me just say that no ever goes hungry in CBR, Mahabalipuram, period! The resort boasts of 2 restaurants, a bar and a bakery.

Kapi which is a multi-cuisine restaurant serves up a delectable breakfast along with a full-service lunch as well as dinner. We were spoilt for choice looking at the wide array of food, ranging from authentic South Indian to Mughlai to Mediterranean and everything in between. It was a foodie’s ultimate dream buffet!

The other is a seafood specialty restaurant right by the beach is aptly named Coast (Oosai). They dish out some of the freshest seafood delicacies. Imagine hanging out on the beach with a cocktail while you are served fresh seafood snacks to gorge.

Paanam – The Bar is a great place to unwind and relax right across from Kapi. With a wide selection of beverages to choose from, Paanam does not hold back.

The bakery at CBR, aptly named Bake House is pretty unique as it serves some amazing local baked goods as well as contemporary ones. A wide choice of dessert after every meal ensured that we had our sugar rush.

The management does make arrangements for food and drinks to be served at one of the 3 marked areas for events and functions.

Activities/Events

Chariot Beach Resort does not have any dearth of activities and event areas, thanks to wide open spaces around. While the indoor events are usually held at Orchid, Marigold or Frangi Pani, the outdoor events are what makes this place stand out among others.

The Neighborhood is one of the biggest event areas in the resort that consist of team building sections – dynamic obstacle course, Burma bridge, zip-line, etc; sports section with tennis courts, volleyball court & cricket.

Apart from the Neighbourhood, Rock Garden offers a view of the sea which makes it an ideal spot for a fun-filled evening. Even a makeshift bar is erected so that drinks can be served cold by the beach.

Party by the Pool, the name says it all! The area adjacent to the pool is a perfect spot for special events, family gatherings or even a wedding.

The holistic Ayurveda Spa, which overlooks the beach and sea, is serene and tranquil. The spa offers various treatments and massages that makes all the worries and stress just vanish.

The Olympic sized pool at Chariot Beach Resort deserves a special mention as it is amazing. It is probably the biggest hotel/resort pool I’ve ever encountered. A few laps early in the morning, rejuvenates the mind and body for the day.

Tours

With such close proximity to the main attractions of Mahabalipuram, it is no wonder that CBR also has tours sketched out for guests to enjoy.

An early morning catamaran ride along with the sunrise into the sea to watch beautiful submerged temples which is only partially visible during low-tide.

A tour of all the major attractions of the area such as the Shore Temple, Arjuna’s Penance, Five Rathas, etc on foot is an experience by itself; although vehicles are also available to head from one spot to the other. Exploring these amazing historical monuments gives an insight to the history of this town that was first inhabited some 1400 years ago.

We were fortunate enough that Chariot Beach Resort arranged for us to experience all the above mentioned activities and we sure had the best time ever.

Service

The ever prevalent service with a smile holds true at Chariot Beach Resort, Mahabalipuram. Staff members really do their best to ensure that your every need is not only met, but also exceeded, and they are probably one of the hotels greatest assets.

Whether one needs a pick-up from the cottage to the restaurant or indulge in sporting activities, staff members are always there to keep you company. They do make you feel special with their attentiveness and keen observation.

Special mention goes out for Mr. Anand Chandrashekhar, General Manager who painstakingly arranged the fabulous Chariot Bloggers Retreat 2017.

The resort looks perfect for a rejuvenating and relaxing stay away from the din and cacophony of the city. Waking up to the sounds of the sea by itself is a soothing experience.Apart from the indulgence and luxury, the fact that the resort is located in the historic city of Mahabalipuram makes it all the more alluring.

Seems like a lovely place to have fun. I like the fact that it is so close to the beach. Mahabalipuram does need a resort like this for there is so much to experience here. The beach of course and then so much of heritage.
