Wellness in the Sahyadri Hills – Hilton Shillim Estate Retreat & Spa!

A great news for people living in Mumbai and nearby areas, there is a great wellness retreat some 3 hours away. Nestled in the Sahyadri Hills of the famous Western Ghats in a bio-diversity park, Hilton Shillim Retreat & Spa is a spectacle in itself.

Location of Hilton Shillim Retreat & Spa:

A scenic 4-hour drive with sporadic rainfall and heavy mist got us into the amazing Hilton Shillim which is quite well known for being one of the largest spas n the world. The isolated and secluded retreat spans 350 acres of lush green natural beauty and provides for ultimate relaxation.

The hotel features spacious luxury villas, five dining areas as well as a yoga pavilion and a spa along with an infinity pool. The grand spa at the retreat boasts of over 150 treatments which can relax the stress of urban life away quite efficiently.

Guests are swiftly transferred from the reception area to the villas in small electric cars (not a buggy!). These cars can be hailed from specific pick up points all across the property with a prior phone call to the front desk.

The hotel has around 90 villas that are clustered in groups of two or three. Each air-conditioned villa is quite spacious and well-ventilated with a super comfortable bed and features an outdoor patio.  The bathroom area is essentially parted into three distinct areas – the loo, the wash basins and the shower area with a tub. Hilton Shillim Retreat & Spa is the only hotel in India that I have been to which has a dedicated “pillow menu” to choose the right kind for the ultimate relaxing sleep.

The outdoor patio is quite a nice spot to relax while gazing out into nature. Since it is an eco-retreat, smoking is prohibited in the villas as well as common areas except for a dedicated spot. A leaflet is placed in the room which clearly states that any evidence of smoking will incur a penalty of 5000 rupees (US$85 approx).

Dining options at Hilton Shillim Retreat & Spa are:

Chef’s Table – Essentially a live kitchen with barbeque.

Terrazzo – Multi-cuisine restaurant.

The Green Table- Mediterranean cuisine by the pool.

Mountain Bar & Bistro – Bar with spectacular views and great food to nibble on.

Food & Service at Hilton Shillim Retreat & Spa:

We were quite surprised by the Chef’s Table (honestly) as there was a live barbeque with outdoor shaded seating for dinner. A seven-course meal coupled with a cocktail was simply delightful and scrumptious. Each course was specifically curated by the team of amazing chefs at the retreat and they take pride in presenting their food. It was quite difficult to finish all the courses and I had to skip the dessert (unfortunately).

Breakfast is served at Terrazzo which is basically a wide array of choices. Everything from cold cuts to fresh fruits and juices was spectacularly spread across a hall in a buffet. A breakfast that consists of cereals, toast, bacon, sausages and veggies coupled with coffee and juice was more than enough to make sure I was ready for the ride back to Mumbai.

The staff members at Hilton Shilim Retreat & Spa deserves a shout out for their service and impeccable hospitality. The staffs shower guests with attention and make sure that every stay at this amazing retreat is a memorable one.

Since time was short at hand and we were there only for a night, we could not explore the hotel as we would have like to.
